Abnormal uterine bleeding is a common gynecologic disorder referring to abnormal quantity, timing, or duration of menstrual bleeding. The most common causes in a non-pregnant woman are structural abnormalities (fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis), anovulation, and bleeding disorders. Anovulation is the failure of the ovary to release ova over a period of time generally exceeding 3 months.
Certain medications, especially hormonal preparations, may also result in atypical bleeding patterns. Additionally, certain cancers can predispose a woman to irregular bleeding.
Anonymous, the cause must be identified so that proper treatment can start to stop the pain and frequent bleeding.
