Hello jkang23,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community and thank you for reaching out to us for advice.

My greatest concern is that you mention that you have taken an emergency contraceptive before.
How often have you taken the pill, prior to taking it in November?
Do you use any other type of birth control, such as oral contraceptives?

An emergency contraceptive is not intended to be used as a regular form of birth control. As the name implies, it is designed to be used only in an emergency situation, such as contraceptive failure.

Taking such a pill too often can actually make it less effective and can potentially upset the hormonal balance that regulates the menstrual cycle. Since ECP have not been available for that many years and the manufacturer assumes women will use it as directed, enough time has not passed for much information to be available on the long term side effects of overuse.

kjang23, please contact your gynecologist. I do not think you are pregnant. But, I am concerned about your overuse of ECP and a hormonal imbalance.

Please keep us updated.

Regards,
Maryann
