Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for coming to us with your concern.

If you have not already been given a follow-up appointment with your gastroenterologist to discuss the results of the upper endoscopy, please do so today. Your physician will discuss the findings and how they relate to you.

I can give you general information.

As you may already know, "gastritis describes a group of conditions with one thing in common: inflammation of the lining of the stomach. The inflammation of gastritis is most often the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers. Injury, regular use of certain pain relievers and drinking too much alcohol also can contribute to gastritis." Mayo Clinic

An upper endoscopy is a diagnostic test a gastroenterologist will perform to look for signs of inflammation. If a suspicious area is found, your doctor may remove small tissue samples (biopsy) for laboratory examination.

Regards,
Maryann
