Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

At age 55, you are probably entering perimenopause. This is a transition time when normally regular menstrual cycles become irregular. That happens because estrogen levels fluctuate or rise and fall irregularly.

I am concerned that you had a normal period and then bled a week later. How long did your normal period last? There is no normal time frame to refer to for bleeding that starts a week following a normal period. There is a concern for iron deficiency anemia if you have prolonged and heavy bleeding. That must be addressed with your gynecologist.

Anonymous, if you continue to bleeding for more than five days and the bleeding is heavy not just a few spots, please contact your doctor.

In the meantime, you might find this article informative.
