Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community if this was implantation bleeding and if you are pregnant. I will gladly try to help, but consulting your gynecologist and a positive pregnancy test are best sources.

The hormones in NuvaRing are the same hormones as in the birth control pill — estrogen and progestin. The hormones in the ring work by keeping eggs from leaving the ovaries. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with the sperm. The hormones also make cervical mucus thicker. This keeps sperm from getting to the eggs.

In regards to how soon after removal of the NuvaRing can you ovulate, I found physicians consistently stated the ring loses it's efficacy if you have it out for longer than 3 hours at a time.

You can ovulate and become pregnant within two weeks of removing NuvaRing. More commonly, it may take four to six weeks following removal to become pregnant.

Implantation bleeding happens to some women about six to 12 days following conception.
Anonymous, spotting so soon after removal and intercourse might not be implantation bleeding, but rather some shedding of your uterine lining.

Regards,
Maryann
