Ovulation occurs about 12 to 14 days from the last day of your last period. An egg lives for about 12-24 hours after you ovulate.
The withdrawal method is not a reliable form of birth control. As you now realize, you do not know if your husband could have ejaculated before withdrawing.
So, there is a chance that you conceived.
An emergency contraceptive prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation.
Natasha, if you took an ECP now, after ovulation, there is no guarantee it would work. It might cause changes in your cervical mucus and make it harder for sperm to reach the released egg.
A pregnancy test detects levels of the hormone, hCG. hCG can be detected in blood about 11 days following conception and in urine, about 12 to 14 days.
You can either call your gynecologist and report what has happened, or wait at least two weeks and test for pregnancy. Certainly test if your next period is late by more than seven days.
