Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community for advice and guidance regarding safe sex.

No. Your current practice is not very safe and does present a risk of your girlfriend becoming pregnant.

Using the withdrawal method for birth control requires self-control. Even then, the withdrawal method isn't an especially effective form of birth control. Sperm may enter the vagina if withdrawal isn't properly timed or if pre-ejaculation fluid contains sperm. The withdrawal method doesn't offer protection from sexually transmitted infections.

As many as 28 out of 100 women who practice the withdrawal method for one year will get pregnant.

When a man feels he's about to ejaculate, he must withdraw his penis from the woman's vagina. Make sure that ejaculation occurs away from the woman's genitals.

Anonymous, you are doing the right thing by washing afterwards. But, If you plan to have sex again within a short period of time, make sure you urinates and cleans off the tip of your penis first. This will help remove any remaining sperm from the previous ejaculation.

The safest way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and the transmission of a sexually transmitted disease is to wear a condom. I understand your girlfriend doesn't like the feel. There is a condom that offers a natural skin on skin feel. It is made by the company Durex and is not made with latex.

As far as your after sex practice, how do you think you can remove any ejaculated semen?
By the time you have cleaned up, sperm, which are strong swimmers, could already be traveling in search of a released egg to fertilize.

Your girlfriend needs to take responsibility to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. She needs to learn about all available birth control options and choose the one that works best for her.
