I am sure your husband has good intentions, but this will not work.
Your gynecologist prescribed the birth control pills to help regulate your menstrual cycle. Take them as directed, that is one pill at the same time each day.
Did your doctor tell you why you only have a period once a year? Have you discussed wanting to conceive and if that is possible?
Depending on the cause of your irregular menstrual cycle, you may need to be on the pills for a while before conceiving is possible
