Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

It is important to first understand what Postinor 2 is and how it works. Postinor 2, like other emergency contraceptives is intended to be used in an emergency situation of contraceptive failure. It is not intended to be used as a regular form of birth control.

It prevents a pregnancy before it is established by preventing or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary (by preventing ovulation) with the help of a hormone called Levonorgestrel, the same hormone found in many regular contraceptives.

Anonymous, if you took the pill before ovulation, it will prevent a pregnancy should you have intercourse two to three days after taking it.

Regards,
Maryann
