NuvaRing is a small, flexible vaginal ring used to prevent pregnancy. You put it in for 3 weeks, take it out, then put a new one in a week later.
NuvaRing contains 2 kinds of female hormones, estrogen and progestin, which work together to prevent pregnancy. They are the same kind of hormones found in the pill and they work the same way to prevent pregnancy even though they are administered differently with NuvaRing.
Once you place NuvaRing in your vagina, it releases a continuous low dose of hormones that helps prevent pregnancy.
cew017, weight gain is a common side effect of NuvaRing. I do not know the percentage of women who experience this side effect.
Yaz tablets contain a combination of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary) and also cause changes in your cervical and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
Weight gain is a less common side effect associated with Yaz. Again, I do not know the percentage of woman who experience this.
