Guide (reply to Anonymous)

Hello Anonymous,

An ectopic pregnancy cannot develop normally because the fertilized egg does not implant in the uterus. It cannot survive. The only option is to end it.

If you do not have a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, it will be detected on ultrasound and the gynecologist may give you the drug methotrexate. This medication is injected into a muscle and reaches the embryo through your bloodstream. It ends the pregnancy by stopping the cells of the placenta from growing. (The tiny embryo is reabsorbed into your body over time.)

Regards,
Maryann
