Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question of why you have had two periods this month.

Having two periods in one month may be normal if you have shorter cycles. If your cycles are on the shorter end of the spectrum, you could have your period at the beginning and end of the month with no reason for concern.

If you experience bleeding outside of your normal menstrual cycle and suspect you’re having a second period, the first thing you should do is determine if it’s spotting or menstrual bleeding.

If you’re having menstrual bleeding, also known as your period, you should expect to soak through a pad or tampon every few hours. The blood will also be bright red.

If you’re experiencing spotting, you won’t bleed enough to fill a pad or tampon. However, you may want to wear a pad to help protect your clothing. Blood from spotting is usually dark red or brown.

Anonymous, hypothyroidism, the onset of perimenopause, uterine fibroids or cysts, stress, extreme weight gain or loss, and illness can cause you to have two periods in one month.

You should make an appointment with your gynecologist if you experience pelvic pain that isn’t going away after a couple of days, have heavy bleeding, the cramping increases and persists, and notice dark clots with the bleeding.

Hope this was of some help.
