Guide

Hello Amanda0514,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.

Changes to the menstrual cycle are a reported side effect of Plan B. It can cause your next monthly period to start earlier or later than normal.

The pill works by preventing ovulation. I am concerned that you took the pill just eight days before your period was due. That was too late to prevent ovulation. But, the high dose of the hormone, levonorgestrel, may have caused enough of an imbalance to delay the start of your period.

The recommendation is to test for pregnancy if you have not had any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill. For you, that would be about another week. You can always reach out to your gynecologist for advice or wait another week.

Regards,
Maryann
