An emergency contraceptive prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. It will be effective for one menstrual cycle.
It is most effective if taken as soon as possible, and must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
You will know the pill worked once you have vaginal bleeding, that is either bleeding before your period is due to start, or getting your monthly period.
