When internal hemorrhage occurs into functional cysts of the ovary it is called a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst.
Complex cysts aren’t related to your normal menstrual cycle, and they’re less common.
Complex ovarian cysts may need further treatment. Five to 10 percent of women need surgery to remove an ovarian cyst.
