Q:

Botox To Prevent Wrinkles?

I am 23 years old and already have some wrinkle lines on my forehead.

My forehead is rather prominent, so my many facial expressions and repeated sun burns have already caused some lines to appear.

I've been using anti-aging cream for a few months and I think it is helping, but I don't want large, ugly forehead wrinkles as I age.

My brother, who also has a prominent forehead and spends even more time in the sun than I, also has similar forehead wrinkles and he is only 20.

I heard that while botox eliminates wrinkles it also helps prevent them as well. Is this true? What are other options besides botox?

I realize this is coming a bit late from the original post, but this topic really interests me. Google: "Botox twins" It's quite amazing. Also don't rely purely on others blogs, remember they are just opinions;) I'm 24 with the exact forehead wrinkles you described. I recently got botox, and wrinkles are gone ! My dermatologist assures me that these treatments will prevent wrinkles.

Please note that the Botix twins study was done by Dr Binder. A consultant and stockholder of Allergan maker of Botox.

Hello Shannon!

I am curious to know what you decided on doing about this botox situation and if you went to your Derm, what advice you were given. I am 28 and also have thought about botox between my eyebrows as a preventative measure for wrinkles.
I have a very animated face (like you) and find that I am constantly furrowing my brows. This year I am starting to notice some changes in their appearance and, at the risk of sounding extremely superficial, I would really like to circumvent any future lines. Also like you, I follow a strict skin care regimn and try to do all the "right" things for my skin so I am just curios to know if there is anything out there that can help me prolong my aging process.

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Any moisturizer is good. It is more important to eat right (lots of colorful fruits and veggies), use sunscreen, don't smoke and drink lots of water. Smoking and sun tanning are the worst things you can do to your skin. (website edited out by EmpowHER moderator.)

Thank you for your emphatic comment. So you know, I have decided against it, at least for now.

Shannon, I am sooo glad you've decided against it for the time-being. I'd hate to see you start something like botox at such a young age, that you'd have to keep doing and keep doing in order to maintain. It's costly, not to mention the fact that it's a poison that you'd be injecting into your body.

Shannon, I’m glad u brought this out, I’m also interested in Botox as prevention although I don’t have visible signs but I have strong facial expression when I squint or smile or talk (I’m 28) so I’m afraid of developing wrinkles and as I was searching this topic to convince myself to stay away from Botox -I’m very athletic and healthy person and lucky to own a spa which gives the chance to have regular facials, crystal and diamond peeling and micro current face lifting and laser skin rejuvenation which all considered to be the latest technologies advancements in the world- but I couldn’t put the idea aside so I have this advice … go get it once in a small amount as I personally will die to try the feeling , it will not harm u!! It seems nothing would change ur mind unless u try the temporary effect and see how it feels like if u can afford the cost!

After all the searching I’ve done I would say that the only prevention effect in Botox for me would be freezing my facial expressions for sometime and eventually decreasing the use of the facial expressions, for u I don’t think u have this problem!

Generally I prefer keeping the muscles working as I think that we have to train the facial muscles as the body muscles so I would like to share this amazing website I found about 3 months ago and I’m in love with it, it offers a 12 facial exercises that u can keep for life…http://www.faceworks.co.uk/ ….. Good luck.

Coach Virginia-

Thank you for this additional information. I think I have made the right decision for now, but I am more interested in researching botox, as you have, to see if the show I watched was incorrect.

It is interesting how much power a doctor's word has now-a-days. This conversation has reminded me just how truly important is to for women to advocate for our health!

Thanks again!
Shannon
