Q:

Can bearing down too hard during bowel movements rupture a newly repaired ulcer bleed?

Recently admitted for severe duodenum ulcer bleed. Lost 3 units blood. Hole corterized. Next day during an echocardiogram was instructed to bear down as hard as I can during procedure. Lost 2 more units blood. Could bearing down have attributed to additional blood loss?

Hello. Thank you for posting.

Did you tell the person doing the test about your ulcer repair just the day before? If so, and they still asked you to bear down hard, they likely did not think it would cause (more) bleeding. But it's possible the bearing down could have aggravated it in some way. We cannot know with certainty. It's best to speak to the physician treating you for the ulcer.
