Q:

Can stuttering be an adverse effect from a flu vaccine.

My 26 year old daughter works for a medical facility where they insist on flu vaccination. About a week after her flu combo vaccine in September of 2010 she began to stutter. She has had an MRI, EEG and lots of blood work with no reasonable explanation (they say it may be stress related but she hasn't had any new issues to create any additional stress in her life). I have been trying to investigate the vaccine and if it could be the cause. She called the local health dept. but was told that they hadn't had any of those issues. I have read that stuttering can be a cause if you may have slight allergies to some of the ingredients of the vaccine. We are just looking for some information to say the vaccine could be the problem. We are not looking for blame but just a way to move on and possibly correct the problem and be sure she doesn't have another vaccine if it was the cause. Any information is appreciated.

My daughter had a nasal flu spray vaccine back in October. She had the spray administered around 7:30 pm. She slept on the way home and didn't wake up until the next morning. She had a very difficult time speaking and have a VERY pronounced stutter. Previously she had never had any difficulty speaking and had advanced speech, expressing herself fluently in full sentences. This heavy stutter lasted 2 weeks. We took her to her Pediatrician. He quickly dismissed the correlation. It's been 6 weeks now and she has improved, but still has a noticeable stutter. We just reported it to VAERS.hh2.gov I hope everyone who has experienced this will report it to the VAERS site so that this can be listed as a possible side effect.

I had commented a year ago about my son Isaac and his stuttering after his flu shot. Well last week instead of the shot he got the nasal spray. He has done a lot better and no stuttering with this method. Im wondering if that made a difference? I was afraid to get it this season but i had to with all the sickness going around.

My daughter is two. She had the flu shot one week ago and two days after developed a pronounced stutter. It was terrible for 3 days and has luckily slowly improved but still affecting her. It is so sad to watch her struggle. I avoided looking online until now, as the doctors always say not to rely on internet searches but I am shocked to discover how many other people are experiencing similar issue. This cannot be a coincidence if so many others are having same reaction right after. Her speech was fine until two days after the shot.

My daughter started to stutter 3 days after getting her Prevnar vaccination when she was 3 years-old. Her speech was great before the shot and once she started to stutter it was painful to see her struggling to speak. I call the pediatrician and was not given much attention to it, of course! She is 6 years old now and her speech is better but still stutter from time to time.

My 3 year old had his flu vaccine on Friday and I started to notice he had started stuttering on Monday. His pediatrician says the flu vaccine couldn't be the cause. I really find it strange that he never did this before. Now that I find I'm not the only one who has seen this, I am really thinking it has to be linked to the flu shot.

I also started stuttering directly after I got the flu shot and was wondering what to do about it. Does it go away?

His teachers actually noticed the difference to. He also has allergies. Now im wondering if i need to tell his doctor about my findings and to see if we can do anything different.

I got my twin boys vaccinated last Thursday, by Friday one of them suddenly started to stutter. I feel so worried for putting the Influenza vaccine and reading about people suffering the same secondary effects. Tomorrow, I will contact their pediatrician to consult the case.

My daughters went away eventually but still every once in a while I see her catch on certain words. The hospital she works at did not insist on her vaccine this year but she had to go in front of the board to fight not to have it. I still feel that the vaccine was the cause but cannot prove it. The drug companies have to much to loose to admit that in some cases it may have adverse effects that they haven't mentioned. I understand that the flu can be serious but as serious as some of the side effects I am not sure. Good luck and I hope that the stuttering goes away with your son. It actually took about 3 months for the pronounced stuttering to subside and about another 3 months for it to completely clear up.

My son (25 months) had the flu vaccine on Saturday. He fell asleep by 6 that night and was stuttering on Sunday. It is now Tuesday and he is still stuttering. I know he is young, but he had very clear speech and spoke in full sentences before this. Hoping it doesn't last.
