Hi Anonymous
Strep throat is caused by the strep bacteria. You can catch it from anyone who has it. Then if you have contact with the person, you can develop strep.
It's more likely that you would develop it after kissing or sharing a drink, but you can get it anywhere you pick up the bacteria. For instance, a guy has strep, he sneezes into his hand, you hold his hand, you've been exposed to strep. It can also live on surfaces for a bit.
Mayo has a section on strep: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/strep-throat/DS00260/DSECTION=causes.
I hope this helps you. Thanks for writing.
