Q:

Can you spot bleed days before your actual period starts, or is the spotting considered the start?

I am looking to get pregnant but am having trouble figuring out the actual start day of my last period. My periods are usually light on the first day, but sometimes I spot a few days before the actual flow begins. I'm just curious if the spotting is considered the first day to calculate ovulation from.

I had never ever had my period and I had been bleeding for about 4 to 4 and a half days. I didnt bleed alot but enough to wear a liner and I had started that night and when I woke up it was all over my pants so I don't really know.

Hi,
This definitely sounds like a period! Spotting is just that...a few spots of blood, and is much less than actual bleeding for two days.

Most women do have brown discharge at the beginning and/or end of their period. Their periods include blood flow that can start out heavy or light, then taper off, and the blood can be either red or pink.

Do you have any other questions about menstruation that we can help answer? How do you feel about your first period?
