i havent missed a period but the last 2 have become lighter and this last one was lighter, i have been working out more just lately but i have also gained some weight, it is usually harder for me to gain weight so i'm not sure what could be happening i have been on birthcontrol for about a year, sometimes i forget a day and forget to make it up and i have been with my boyfriend for about 2 years and we have unprotected sex since im on the pill but i was just wondering what could cause the irregularity in my period? or the weight gain? the exercise maybe? please answer to the best of your knowledge.

Hi Miss What If,

As Allison said above, there may be no reason at all for the missed periods, they just happen sometimes with no reasoning. BUT certainly an increase in physical activity may cause you to miss your period. No worries, if you increase your activity levels, it will catch back up to you. Women in the military, for example, are known to miss periods throughout basic training which may be over 2 months in some branches.

Since you are not experiencing any other symptoms, you should be fine. It will be back....unfortunately. :-)

Ill be 20 this week. And the only change in diet I guess would be me working out more.

Hi, having your periods indicates that you are not pregnant, regardless if they are lighter, heavier, shorter, longer, different i n color, etc. It is the absence of bleeding that could indicate a pregnancy.

Factors that can changer your periods include changes in weight, recent illness, new medications or other unknown reasons. If this is your only symptom, i doubt there is an underlying health condition. Your body is always changing and reacting to
It's environment; your periods will continue to change throughout your life.

How old are you?

You are having protected sex (against pregnancy only) since you are on the pill.

The biggest reasons for wei h change include the amount of calories that you are consuming versus the amount of calories that you are expending. Have you had a change in your diet? If you are worried, you can keep a food diary for 3 days to get w better idea of your actual consumption. Let us know if you have questions about how to do this.
