Do you workout at home?

I recently moved from Portland to Los Angeles, and am taking advantage of the weather and the opportunities to workout outdoors. However, I feel like I need to add something extra. I discovered ExerciseTv and love Jillian Michael's and Jackie Warner's routines, but I feel like I need more to re-structure my workouts (so as not to plateau). I also lift a few sets of light weights once a week. Any suggestions for effective at-home workouts?

I love doing yoga at home. Sometimes I use a video, but mostly I just put on some relaxing music and go through a routine that I've done for years. My kids will even get on the floor with me.

I don't have a gym membership any longer (I miss the treadmill!), but have noticed that I take more walks/jogs/runs outside these days.

I do some exercises at home, and usually did when I had a gym membership, because I strongly dislike any ab (stomach) work. I have a giant exercise ball, and do many exercises on that for my "core" strength, and really like it! It's the only way I will do any exercising for my stomach, because I'm more concentrated on not falling off the ball then thinking about my stomach muscles burning. As you probably know, the exercise ball is great for butt, legs and other muscle groups, too!

I also do basic lunges, squats and push-ups...nothing beats these "traditional" exercises in my mind! Plus, they don't take too long to complete and are FREE!

Lastly, I was thinking about buying a "medicine ball"-- it's an exercise ball that is small (basketball size) and weighted. I really felt results in my love-handle area with a few exercises on the floor (at the gym) with the 5 pound exercise ball.

Ok...really last idea! A jump rope is a great cardio workout at home, and makes you feel like a kid again! It's cheap, easy and you can challenge yourself with different reps, etc.

Let us know what workouts you do at home! I haven't heard of ExerciseTV. One of my friends uses Fit TV...are those the same? Do you need satellite TV to get this?

Thanks for all the advice. These ideas are great! I just bought a medicene ball, a band and three and five pound weights.

Fit TV and ExerciseTV are different. The coolest thing about ExerciseTV (www.exercisetv.com) is that it offers tons of workouts that you can access anytime through On Demand. They have workouts from celebrities like Jillian Michaels, Carmen Electra, Billy Blanks and Kathy Smith. I recently discovered this, and love it.

Thanks again for the advice!

One of the programs that I used that I liked is called P90X. Its marketing says it works on the concept of muscle confusion that incorporates several different exercises -- karate, yoga, cardio, weight lifting, plyometrics and more into a single program over the course of 90 days. While I saw results in my husband, a word of caution -- it's a pretty extreme work out and definitely not for everybody. This program is aimed more at those who are already in shape (this wouldn't be me) but are looking to take their fitness to another level. Perhaps your doctor can recommend a DVD that's appropriate for your fitness level as well. Can you tell me more about the programs you have used?
