Q:

Dyslexia/Depression/Marijuana

My daughter is 22yr. and was first diagnosed with Dyslexia when she was in the second grade. She has tried the different levels of Ritalin since and is currently taking Aderal during the day and has been on and off since she started high school. Unfortunently, at this time in her life being an responsible, independent adult she is having trouble with her mood and depression. She does have a Psychiatrist who treats her for these issues.
My question is would she benefit from Medical Marijuana for the combination of Dyslexia and depression instead of the Aderal?

Coming from someone in college and has to take drug tests. I find it really sad that i can't have a prescription for weed. It helps me tramendiously in school, and other things that people with Dyslexia suffer from commonly like depression, ADHD symptoms, mood swings, anxiety.

I would also, provide that I mix weed with my prescribed dosage of adderall. I found that it takes away ALL of the negative affects of ADHD medication. And allows the adderall to do what it is supposed to do. I am not advocating that other do this.... Im just saying that it works for me personally.

Aderal treats depression caused by adhd. It's not really for dyslexia. xanax would make more sense cause it treats anxiety and can calm her down and keep her focused, which could help her get her disorder under control. As for cannabis treatment for dyslexia i'm not sure how it would help or hurt. Oh, and what she said. *points to Pat*

Dyslexia isn't successfully treated with medication.

Anon - You are seeking a medical opinion and we do not provide medical advice. It would be helpful for you to explore the health issues involved with using medical marijuana first, and there are many of them. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/148088/the_health_risks_and_benefits_of_using.html?cat=5 Then if you still want to explore this you can discuss this with your daughter's physician, if the use is legal where you live.

If you are in the U.S. medical marijuana is legally prescribed in only a few states and only for very specific conditions. It is not generally prescribed for depression or for dyslexia. This link provides information on the states where it is legal and the specific requirements. http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000881
