hi :)
does anyone have any advise on the effects of taking fluoxetine over a period of years or could anyone direct me to any relevant websites?
I've been taking it since 2004, 40mg per day for last 3 years and feel that it makes me both very tired and affects my concentration. This is impacting on me doing my job accurately but my employer refuses to recognise that the meds are causing any problem.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you x

Hi happypills,
Thank you for your question. Fluoxetine (or Prozac) is an anti-depressant that affects chemicals in your brain. Are you using any other medications? Vitamins?
Medicine.net is a great website that you can use to see if there are any long term health effects of usage of any pill. Specifically for your question, please click here http://www.medicinenet.com/fluoxetine/article.htm.
When you explained that this has been affecting your concentration at work…is this a recent effect? Have you spoke to your physician about it? What has he/she said? The affect of pills over time tend to change as our body may get used to them and should always be monitored by your treating physician. Perhaps, scheduling a check up is due.
Let me know if you need additional information.

My goodness! I couldn't have typed a better response, myself! Kudos! Prozac will also stay in your liver for awhile and build up. The National Alliance on Mental Illness will be an additional resource for you to consider checking out. (NAMI) Best wishes. --bec
