As you can guess, if your success at weight loss is as simple as making the healthy food taste better.

Costco sells Sensa for about 1/3 the cost of the online Sensa site -- $89.95 online and under $30 at Costco.

I'm curious to hear from others, what they thought about their success with weight loss when using Sensa, and if they thought it was worth the cost.

From a Health Educator standpoint, I have not been able to find any published studies in peer-reviewed journals regarding this weight loss program, although their site claims to have been studying this program for 25 years. There is one study (again, not published, red flag #1)) that was presented at a conference in June 2008, where the presenter (whom is also the original developer of Sensa, red flag #2) discussed the findings of the study that showed weight loss after 6 months of using Sensa in over 2000 participants. Sounds promising, and is an interesting concept. The "sprinkles" or "seasonings" or "tastants" are used on your food to change the flavor of the food, with the intention that healthy food will taste good, and you will eat more of it. The "science" behind it (from Sensa website) is that the "tastants" work with your sensory receptor sites (smell and taste) to signal to your brain that you are full and satisfied.

Honestly, you could do this yourself with using the same seasonings that were used in the study presented at the conference, as they used: Parmesan, cheese, horseradish, onion, ranch dressing, banana, strawberry, spearmint, among other seasonings. The starter kit for 6 months is over $200.00.

These are the questions I would ask:
1. What are the actual ingredients in the seasonings, any side effects associated with these ingredients when used on a short-term or long-term basis?
2. What is the cost comparison with purchasing this system's "tastants" vs. purchasing my own seasonings?
3. Does the "starter kit" come with online weight loss support, and community or buddy system that I can utilize? Are there recipes or other helpful tools included?
4. What are my weight loss goals, and what are my barriers and triggers? Do I need a buddy system, a new way to cook food, a fresh start to weight loss with something new? Are my barriers not eating healthy foods, or are they not exercising, or are they eating too MUCH of the unhealthy foods?

As you can guess, if your success at weight loss is as simple as making the healthy food taste better, than Sensa or adding seasonings to your food may be all you need. Recipe swaps or other ideas are good, too.

However, if your success at weight loss would be heightened by spending the $200 (or more) on a personal trainer, or joining a weight loss program that included meeting in-person or with a buddy, that may be a better use of your money.

If you are interested in trying this product, my number one question with the company would be to receive the ingredient list or Nutritional Information for the supplements BEFORE you purchase the product, as you need to run it by your doctor to ensure there are no interactions with any current medication you are taking, as well as no side effects that could cause harm.

I would love to hear your thoughts, while we wait from others who have tried this weight loss program. What do you consider to be your weight loss goals, barriers, previous successes and triggers?
