Q:

Has anyone had "her Option" cryo ablation procedure done for heavy bleeding, pms, cramps. I had it done four days ago and my doctor said to expect a watery discharge for about 3 weeks. I have extremely heavy bleeding and severe cramps. Is this normal?

Hi Anon - Thanks for writing. I would strongly advise you to learn as much as you can about the impact of a hysterectomy before making your decision. While doctors may portray it as just a surgical procedure a hysterectomy can have a profound impact on your life and health that goes far beyond dealing with your menstrual cycle. We have a long thread on the site that has some very spirited opinions from women who have had hysterectomies and that would be a good starting place. https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/due-have-hysterectomy-am-scared-death-after-viewing-video-about-side-effects

You can also look at the range of alternatives open to you, here's a video about that:

Will you let us know if this is helpful? Good luck!

I am having the procedure done in July. I have been dealing with heavy periods (going thru pads frequently, haven't been able to wear tampons since I had a tubal ligation, which is when the bad periods started), cramping to the point, I have to leave work, either the cramps or the fact that I'm bleeding thru my clothes. I am very nervous about this procedure now. He also offered to do a hysterectomy if it didn't take but after reading this, I might just go ahead with the hysterectomy. I have no problem with it, I am only 27 but I am not having nor do I want any more children. I just can't do the long, heavy painful periods until I hit menopause, which is still a ways away for me. Any advice would be grateful!!!

I had this done 4 days ago and still have a little bleeding with the discharge but no cramping. I was awake during the procedure and while very uncomfortable it was not really painful. I had severe cramping and nausea afterwards. I also vomitted and had diarrhea. However, I think that might have been due to the antibiotics. I slept for a few hours when I got home and when I woke up I felt much better. I stayed home from work the next day because I have a long commute on a train but I probably could have went to work. I sure hope I have good results but it will take awhile to know.

I only had this done 2 weeks ago, so I don't know the "end results" yet. I had waited over 2 years for my doctor to start doing this in the office. I didn't want to be put to sleep and have such a huge decductible to have to pay so I was fortunate enough that I only had to pay a $15.00 co-pay by having it done in office. The procedure for me was painless, and so far, things have not been bad as far as the discharge is concerned. I would do it again and I hope I get good results. Good Luck to you.

My doctor has given me the information book and asked me to consider this as an option for my periods which are lasting for months at a time. I am concerned from what others have posted that I will not get the results he is promising me. I am still in my 20's and the idea of getting a hysterectomy is a bit overwhelming! However I am tired of being so tired and grouchy ALL THE TIME, and planning my life around my unpredictable bleeding. For those of you who have had this procedure, do you feel it was worth it?

Hi. Just letting you know that i had the cryo done in may 07. it is now oct 2011. My cycles are and have been 10x's worse w/added problems. i wish I knew that things could get worse as a result but i was never told nor did i find in my research prior to the procedure that things could get worse. I thought worse case scenerio was that it just wouldn't work, but for me, it not only didn't work, I'm worse, way worse, the cramps are worse than cramps and the bleeding ea month lasts 7days and the first 4 i hv to wear towels b/c a pad is a joke. I'm probably left w/no choice but to get a hysterect. but I'm 46 now and not planning on more children obviously. I'm still not happy about having to consider this. i haven't been back to my gyno since b/c of his lack of concern and minimiziing my pain as if i'm crazy.tht's another issue, but it caused me to stop going to a gyno which is a whole other set of problems. I wish you the best and hopefully there's more info on this than was when i had done b/c there were no sites w/results like now. Wishing you the best.l

I just had the procedure done on 8/25/11, the procedure was a breeze, had some cramping after, but simple ibuprofen stopped the pain, but the bleeding is very, very, very heavy. Hopefully only for a few more months. Cramping is still there, nothing has changed, but I feel it will.

I had the procedure done on Feb. 23rd 2010. The procedure itself was maybe a 1 on a scale of 1-10 as far as pain. I was a little nauseated after getting dressed, but it didn't last long. I slept for a couple hours after going home and felt fine after that. I have had light watery discharge since the procedure. I started my period on the 27th and it is now March 6th and I am still bleeding. The doctor said that I would probably have a normal period the first time and would see results in 2 - 3 months. This period has been longer than normal. I have had some shooting pains in my lower side and up thru my vagina which lasted about 30 minutes or so. I hope to have good results from this procedure but I know it will take time to see them.
