Q:

Has anyone had "her Option" cryo ablation procedure done for heavy bleeding, pms, cramps. I had it done four days ago and my doctor said to expect a watery discharge for about 3 weeks. I have extremely heavy bleeding and severe cramps. Is this normal?

Anon - Shooting pains are not a normal occurrence after this procedure. It would be advisable to call your doctor's office as soon as possible to make them aware of this situation and seek their advice. Will you please do this and let us know what you learn? You may find out that this isn't related to the procedure and that there's no cause for alarm, but you should definitely get this checked out. Take care, Pat

I had the procedure done about a month ago. I have had one period since then, very light and lasted on 3 days. The watery discharge lasted 2 1/2 weeks for me. This procedure has not affected my sex life at all. I am very happy so far with the out come.

I had my Cryo-ablation 12/09 in office - awake - not the most pleasant experience but not horrendous. Was thinking no pain/no gain. I have very heavy bleeding, clotting, and cramps every 23 days for a week. 3 cylces later - no improvement. Some cramps even worse. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy this month - I just cannot take the disability each month of the intensely heavy bleeding, lack of sleep, cramps and all that it causes ( anemia, fatigue, embarrassment, stress, missing events, etc) Now I am getting mid-cycle spotting and more pelvic pain...waiting for the nurse to call me now....... I have tried IUD (hemmoraged it out) Balloon ablation (fibroids got in the way & uterus to enlarged) BCP ( didn't help) and now the cryoablation over the past 5 years and feel like a guinea pig. Really not psyched for a hysterectomy but am at wits end.....

Anon - A watery discharge is the expected norm for 2-3 weeks following the procedure. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) some minor side effects are common after endometrial ablation:
* Cramping, like menstrual cramps, for 1–2 days
* Thin, watery discharge mixed with blood, which can last a few weeks. The discharge may be heavy for 2–3 days after the procedure.
* Frequent urination for 24 hours
* Nausea

Since you are experiencing strong cramps and large clots it would be advisable to contact your doctor's office and seek their advice. Will you let us know what you learn and what they advise? We wish you the best and relief from the pain.
Take care, Pat

I am having a lot of problems with my period. Heavy bleeding, cramps. The doctor gave me birthcontrol, and I feel really sick, vomiting, upset stomach, etc....
The doctor is telling about the cryoblation theraphy, but reading all these comments, I am thinking not to doing it. I am a 45 years old woman and I am looking for something easer than take my uterus out, but I think this is not worht it.
Thank you

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your comment. It always is a good idea to look into all options before making a decision about which is the right choice for you. Here is an article that may help to that end:

I am suffering the same fate. I had it done about a month ago. I am going through my first cycle...It is hell! I have never(before this) experienced such intense cramping and large clots! Can anyone tell if this is normal?

I had the procedure in oct. 2007. I continue to have discharge in between my continuing heavy periods. The discharge is no longer thin and watery but mucous like. I have complained to my Dr., had a endometrial biopsy, screened for bacterial vaginosis, std's, etc. Nothing turns up. My fibroids are still resilient so I'm taking iron, folic acid, b12 and trying to wait it out. It's very annoying but I don't want a hysterectomy for something that going to go away with menopause.

I have the same question of Alisson!! Depend on your age, because I would tell you what my mom tells me. Uterus is good just for two things: Have kids and have cancer. Depend on your age, think seriously about what to do.
