Hello, Anon. Thank you for posting!

If thyroid enlargement occurs very slowly, a person may not notice the slow increase in size or have any symptoms. However, some patients may complain of a feeling of fullness in the neck, a choking sensation, difficulty swallowing large pills or chunky foods, a sense of pressure on the neck, or worsening snoring, especially when the thyroid grows beneath the breastbone (i.e. substernal goiter). These compressive symptoms can be due to enlargement of the thyroid or due to inflammation in the thyroid.

Have you seen a doctor? Does this sound like what he told you? I know this can be a scary feeling which is why communicating with your doctor and following his or her recommended treatment plan is very important.

In the meantime, eat softer foods and take small bites of food and chew thoroughly to avoid making the sensation in your throat worse. Sip liquids often. Avoid swallowing large pills (if possible) and look for liquid or chewable alternatives you can take.
