how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I have meaning to get on here and post a comment...I got diagnosed almost a month ago and I was so upset. I found all these comments and I tried everything you mentioned. Tanning is what did it for me. I saw results the next morning it was the only thing that gave me instant results. I would take him and just let him tan for a few mins everyday or every other day. My ps was severe it went up my neck and some on my face, I tanned for a week straight and poof it was gone. Just take him before it starts spreading maybe you can end its course in a shorter time. Good luck.

Hi everyone... Thank goodness for this site :)
It's helped immensely reading all of these comments. I've had this PR for about a week now, I had my herald spot under my armpit about 2-3 days before the rest of my rash emerged. I went to the doc yesterday and she diagnosed me with PR but I knew already from Internet research. She told me to take Zantac along with benedryl so I went out last night and got my mess, head & shoulders and calamine lotion, also some aveeno lotion.
The head & shoulders seemed to sooth me...but the aveeno set me on fire... It also stayed sticky and oily on my skin. I took a benedryl to help me sleep and about an hour after falling asleep, I woke up just stinging. So I got in the shower again and washed off the aveeno and coated myself in calamine.
This has been pretty rough so far and I'm not looking forward to 6-8 weeks of this.
I feel for all of you that are having to deal with this and wish you all the best x

Okay, so if you're looking to get rid of your PR (which i'm sure you are) - follow these steps and it should do it, of course it worked on me, but i can't gurantee it will work on you - but theres no harm in trying. My PR was gradually getting worse and worse after a couple of weeks, untill i figured out the cure - i inititally thought it would keep spreading and last months.

Step 1 - If you haven't already been, get yourself to the doctors. This will make sure you actually have PR instead of diagnosing yourself, tell the doctor that you think you have PR. If they do diagnose you, 95% of them will tell you there is absoutely nothing that can be done and 'nature' is the only way to cure it, leaving you depressed and hopeless - THIS IS A LIE! Do not listen to these doctors.

Step 2 - Go and buy E45 Bath oil. Depending on how quickly you want PR to start fading, you should bath every night in it. You don't need any other bubble bath or soap as this will take care of it for you. If you dont have a bath or dont want to bath, then tip some onto a sponge and soak yourself in it.

Step 3 - Go and buy Head and Shoulders anti dandruff shampoo. Obviously you can use this to wash your hair, but heres the important part.. Assuming you shower everyday, cover a sponge in the shampoo and rub against all parts of the PR. Im no scientist, but i hear the shampoo has a specialised formula to dry up rashes and help them dissapear.

Step 4 - Go and buy coconut oil. Use this 2 or 3 times a day and apply mainly after showering or bathing, covering your whole body in it to stop the spreading. Try and leave your clothes off for a while to let the oil settle into your skin.

Additional steps:

You can also try these which will help to fade PR

- SLEEP! Get as much sleep as you can
- Sun - Now this is important, if the sun is out, go bath in it! If its not, do NOT go on a tanning sunbed no matter what anyone says. This can be dangerous and will not help the PR in the longrun.

I had PR for a couple of weeks untill it really started to bother me, so i took these steps and they started to fade the same day i started this treatment. It has been about a week since i started the treatment and most of the spots have completely gone, the ones that haven't are very dim.

I hope this helps, as i understand how terribly frustrating and depressing PR is, but remember, when theres a will theres a way! Stay positive.

I got mine clearead almost completely; I used head&shoulders shampoo as body wash, Monoi coconut oil after every shower, took antihistamine medicine when the itchiness drove me crazy and went once to the tanning saloon for 7 minutes (it's winter where I live) now it's all gone from my chest to my hips, I still have some on my butt cheeks and legs but the worst ones are totally gone!

I got the big patch you usually get at the beginning of pityriasis about two or three weeks ago on the back of my neck. i went to my doctor about a week ago because my mom thought it was ring worm. he didn't for sure know whether it was ring worm or pityriasis rosea so he told me to just get ring worm cream and sit in the sun for 30 min for 2 days. I am now starting to get little bumps on my upper chest and stomach. some are small clusters. I don't know what to do and if it even is pityriasis rosea but it scares me being only 14 years old. my mom tells me not to worry and makes jokes about it but it really concerns me. especially reading everyone's comments about how terrible it is.

Hey,I've been diagnosed with pity in february. My question/biggest worry is that i have many big white spots left on my arms and they are not dissappearing at all...they just become more visible as soon as i get tanned a bit.Did someone had any expirience with this kind of PR consequence? Will they go away and when? Help me please,it looks like depigmentation spots on the places where red spots were at first

Hi
Did your white spots on your arms eventually go away? I've had PR for several weeks and this is now happening to my arms.

I was diagnosed with PR about 9 weeks ago. The rash is gone now but I also have white spots left on my arms and chest. Have yours gone away or know about a treatment of something to make them go away?
