I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I m in the 2nd week and the itch is crazy. Some red rashes seem to be dried while some are not at all dry . i m surviving totally on calamine lotion thats it.. But it is very tough.. The medicines for itching are not helping much in the night.. Trying to get prreze in india but that ll take couple of weeks... Don't know what to do to survive the nights now..
How does the red million rashes fade away..? At the very last stage.. Like will it become smaller or very dark in colour but small? Or very bright in colour?
I m very fair.. When nothing applied the rahe are pink. When i apply the lotion the skin and rah become pinkish n then when moist gone from it, rash becomes dark..

I'm going on week 7 of having PR and I hope I can share some additional info. My PR started with small red bumps on my back - about a cm, which I thought were bug bites. They also itched like bug bites. A few days later, the rash spread to my chest, down my torso, all around my groin area/bikini line, and down my quads and upper arms. It was a mess. I went to the dermatologist several times, who finally diagnosed me with PR. He prescribed me prednisone (40mg per day for 10 days) and told me to use Sarna lotion (which smells terrible but helped with the itching so I could sleep). The menthol in the lotion made my skin feel uncomfortable, but that subsided after a few minutes. Taking prednisone was such a bad idea. I had a stronger than normal reaction and felt like I had tons of energy while on it, which made it hard to sleep/rest/relax. The doctor didn't have me taper off of the medication and after my last dose, I began to experience withdrawal symptoms for about a week (out of it, fly like symptoms, fatigue, rapid heart rate) - it was terrible. On the plus side, the rash flattened out and started to dry out. I also used Aquaphor, which helped keep everything hydrated. My skin is now peeling, and I brown marks everywhere that are beginning to fade. There's no more itching which is great.
Long story short, I'm not sure I'd recommend steroid medication, but the lotions really helped.

Omg I totally understand you with the prednisone withdrawal side effects. I'm going through it currently. But unfortunately despite the flattening and healing of my old wounds, My PR has returned. I'm going natural this time, Time in the Sun and tons of vitamins and allowing it to run its course. 6 weeks with 1 week remission and counting. I hope this helps, becoz this is horrible, when does it actually stop.

Hi all, I have PR for 3 weeks now, it is strange for me that the initial rashes on my trunk is now flat and fading, but the rashes on my arms and legs are still growing towards the hands and feet and looking very active and bumpy. I start getting small blisters on some bumps as well. Just wondering if this progress is normal, a good sign of healing or if there is other problem overlooked here?
I also suspect that alcohol make it worse, I had a small glass of beer last week and I regret it.

Hi,

Alcohol is a trigger (among others) that can prompt or aggravate rosacea flare-ups in some patients. Drinking might cause fewer reactions than sunlight, heat, and environmental stress, but for some, just one alcoholic drink can trigger problems in two of three patients.

Take 1000mg of lysine, take 2 pills twice a day, stay away from sugars. do oatmeal baths or use neem powder. I currently have PR and its going away!
Also do not stress out or it'll flare :)

I healed my pityriasis rosea in three weeks without tanning. My case was BAD-- almost every inch of my skin below my neck to my knees was covered. As soon as I found out I had it, about a week after I first saw my herald patch, I started aggressively treating it:

Week 1: Covered body in head and shoulders extra strength dandruff shampoo. Let it sink in for about 5-10 mins, then rinsed off with a cool shower. The shampoo made it very red and angry for a bit after. After drying, I applied a homemade mixture Moon Valley EczemaCalm (which contains a lot of the same ingredients as Prreze), aloe vera, and few drops of Neem oil. This week, it got much worse, despite doing this 2-3x a day.

Week 2: The spreading stop, and I continued everything from week 1. Mostly stayed the same, except for the shampoo treatment began to really dry out my skin. I started to get more uncomfortable from my skin being so dry, and skin started to flake off. By the end of the week, my skin was shedding everywhere and the rash became less raised in some places.

Week 3: At the start of the week, I noticed most of the rash had faded in color and was less raised than before. I continued using my mixture, and then added coconut oil, which was magical. As soon as I started using it in combination with the MoonValley cream, aloe, and neem, my skin healed in days. My skin on my chest is now completely healed, and everything else is faded and is no longer even noticeable.

Definitely think the coconut oil helped the most. Hope this is helpful!

Ur cocnut oil tip worked wonders. I didn't use anything other than calamine and coconut oil. I used applied plenty of cocnut oil to my body while in shower and then waited in shower for 5 mins and without using soap, i finished my shower. Pat dried and then applied calamine generously. I could see the results almost from the next day. Trust me without soap u will still be fine.it doesn't make u oily at all. But u get moisturized nicely. And donn worry, nothing is permanent, including infections and WILL HEAL. FINGERS CROSSED :)
