Q:

How long until my right ovary will take over?

A quick summary: I had my left ovary removed 4 weeks ago due to an ectopic pregnancy that was growing in my left ovary. I was told that my right ovary will pick up the slack and start working extra hard. My question however is how long until my right ovary picks up and starts working on its own?
I've had cramps this whole week close to when my menstruation would've been due but still no sign of a period, so I'm wondering when my ovary will start working and ovulate approximately?

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

Every woman is different but recovery from ovary removal can take up to 6 weeks. Because the procedure alters your hormone level its really tough to even give you an estimate of when your other ovary will begin ovulating. Since you have experienced cramping you may be closer than you think.
Your doctor can give you a better indication of things specific to your situation.

Remember to give your body adequate time to heal and adjust hormonally.

Be well,
