How soon will you miss your period after conception?

I was off birth control from June 30, 2010- and began retaking it July 9, 2010. On the night of July 9 I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend and he finished in me. My period was due on July 14th and it didnt come. I wasnt sure if this was because my cycle was messed up due to not taking my pill, or if I missed it because I could be pregnant. I am not sure if I would miss my period that close to conception sine it was only 5 days later. The two weeks before July 30, I was taking my pill but also taking antibiotics were lowered the effectiveness. Should I take a test? and how soon should I take it? Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

Hi Sarfis

I'm certain part of the problem is your on and off with the birth control, and it may be partly related to the antibiotics as well. Often the pregnancy tests state you can take them a week after your missed period. You could probably take one now, but you may want to wait a little longer.

The CDC has good information on this: http://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/pregnancy-tests.cfm, and we do as well: https://www.empowher.com/condition/pregnancy.

Good luck and thanks for writing.
