My name is belle. I am 13. I have been getting my period since July, 2013. I never gave much thought to how long my period was, just WHEN it started. Then I heard that anything over seven days is bad. Well, I am almost positive that all of my periods so far have been between 6-10 days starting at minor bleeding or spotting to spotting/no need for liner. I am on the tenth day of my period right now, and although I am only using a liner, I am very scared that something very wrong is happening to me. I am crying right now and very worried. Please help! Other info about me: weight:102pounds, height:5' 4", I am very active, mainly in dance. I am on a competitive dance team as well. I do not remember blood clots, maybe a few, but smaller than my pinky finger nail and rare. Thank you.

Hi Belle,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. There is nothing to fear about starting your period. Every woman will have different symptoms and duration of her menstrual cycle. What you explained is not uncommon. Also once you start your cycle, it is common to have irregularities such as a 7 day period one month, maybe no period the next month, short period the following month....etc.

There is no clear set schedule for your cycle or specific time frame that your period will stay. In all honesty, your menstrual cycle is just all over the place from this point forward. Once you reach your late 20s to early 30s, your cycle tends to become a bit more normal, although as I said earlier, every woman is different.

I hope this helps settle your concerns. Welcome to womanhood. :-)
