I HAVE BEEN ON A "TROCHE" (BIEST) MADE BY A COMPOUNDING PHARMACY FOR PAST 6 YEARS AND DO NOT FIND IT VERY EFFECTIVE - I WOULD MUCH PREFER TO GO BACK TO THE SYNTHETIC HRT. WHAT IS WRONG WITH CONTINUING WITH THIS HRT AND WHY WOULD MY DOCTOR REFUSE TO CONTINUE MY SCRIPTS ?

Hi Anonymous-

Opinions vary greatly on HRT and how long to continue. Some experts feel it is safe to stay on indefinitely as long as you started right after menopause, but if you waited for a while and then start HRT it seems the risks of adverse effects are higher.

Did you ask your doctor why she didn't want to prescribe it any longer? Usually there is a reason for something like that. Perhaps your risks have changed and it is no longer safe for you? The only way to get the answer to your question is to ask your doctor.

We have some lively discussion on HRT here: https://www.empowher.com/community/ask/hrt-or-not-hrt that may help you.

I suggest you call the doctor and find out exactly what the problem is. Good luck.
