I am 38 years old and my periods have been 100% regular until this month, when I am now a week late, however myself and my husband always use contraception as condom. I am worries , however am more concerned that it may be the early menopause, how else would I know and how long should I leave it before I get really worried. I tend to have stress all the time any way and my periods have remained regular throughout, so do not think it is stress related - this is a real suprise to me and I am not sure what to do.

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Since you are already late, take a pregnancy test to know for sure. If it's negative, you may be late due to the start of peri-menopause. This is a natural cycle of life for a woman that doesn't require a medical intervention unless there are uncomfortable symptoms. Peri-menopause and menopause can be a very long process for many - ten years or more.
You could also be late simply through a hormonal shift this month and you may find you get back to normal next month.
Best,
Susan
