About three weeks ago I lifted something very heavy over the top of a dumpster. Just as it went in I got this severe pain in the top of my head like it was going to explode. All I remember is sitting down and holding my head. My eyes were closed and I couldn't open then. It felt like I sat there for awhile but it was probably about five min. I get bad migraines but never anything like that. Yet I didn't go to ER until next morning. I went five times that week. Every time my head felt like it was going to explode. It would happen just bending over. They did ct and spinal and found nothing. Should I be nervous of brain aneurysm or would that not have symptoms that I had?

Hi TinaP and thanks for bringing your question and concerns to EmpowHER.

It's good news that your MRI showed that your brain was normal. They were most likely looking for tumors or other abnormalities, and from what you've said they didn't find those issues or any other serious concerns which would give you a lot to worry about.

The most common type of headache causing severe pain at the top of the head is what's known as a tension headache. The cause isn't fully understood, but it is believed that stress triggers them and that they are more common in people who may have a heightened sensitivity to pain and/or stress.

I suggest that you explore the Headache Community on the EmpowHER site to get more insight into what you can do to relieve headaches, and read this article, How to Ease Your Tension Headaches.

It would also be a good idea to see your regular doctor, instead of going to the ER, for a check up and to get ongoing assistance to deal with the headaches. It may take a combination of medication and lifestyle changes to prevent these in the future.

Hope this helps,

Pat
