Dear Anon,
Thank you for visiting the EmpowHER community and for sharing your question about breastfeeding!
So many new mothers feel the same thing you are feeling! Breastfeeding isn't as easy as it seems-I am speaking from experience since having had my two children.
I think mother's always feel like they aren't producing enough milk to feed their baby. We also get mixed reviews...some people will tell you you are over reacting and your baby IS getting enough and others will make you paranoid that your baby is starving!
It is so stressful (or at least for me it was). There are a few things you can try, like herbs and increasing your calorie intake. But most importantly, keep in close tabs with your pediatrician to make sure your baby is gaining the appropriate weight. I kept trying to increase my milk supply and pumped in-between (which helps) but on my son's 4 week visit, he hit a plateau and so the pediatrician suggested that I supplement with formula. He gained weight right away, but it took a while for my milk supply to increase enough.
Every mom has their own experience and also their own beliefs etc. I would suggest that you try a few things, but in the meantime, talk to the pediatrician, your OB and a lactation specialist.
Here are a few tips for increasing your supply from Wikihow
Anon, was this helpful?
Best,
Kristin
