Water on the brain (hydrocephalus) is an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain. The fluid is often under increased pressure and can compress the brain. Your doctor will discuss treatment options with you. Treatment depends on the severity. A common treatment for hydrocephalus is the surgical insertion of a shunt to drain excess fluid.
