I am due to have a mitral valve repair in December and was told to find some front closure, comfy, but supportive bras to wear after the surgery. I'm am large breasted so I need something with some support. So far I haven't found anything yet. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Hello azsweetie -
Thanks for writing. It's kind of amazing isn't it that the women who need the most support - large breasted women - often have the smallest selection available from lingerie departments. That can be very frustrating and I appreciate your situation.

The good news is there are several solutions for you, and for other women such as those needing this type of support following breast surgery.

The type of bra you're looking for is referred to by several different names which can make it hard to find. It may be called a leisure bra, comfort bra or sleep bra. Most hook in the front and are made from soft, stretchy materials such as a cotton/spandex combination or a nylon/spandex combination.

These bras are often available through stores that specialize in plus size clothing for women such as Lane Bryant. One of the largest selections is available through the website for Just My Size, a company that makes plus sized lingerie under their own brand but also offers many other brands. The website is www.jms.com. There are many other other websites online that also specialize in bras and offer multiple sizes and options.

If those options don't work for you and you need more help, please send me a direct message. I also live in Phoenix and would be happy to assist you. Best wishes for a successful surgery and recovery.

Take good care,
Pat
