that is my biggest issue right now. the oncology surgeon who told me that he would treat me if i decided to go the megace route has not proved to be at all helpful to me. we are not on the same team! the only issue i have right now is with my throat, and it could be something as simple as the tube they put down my throat for the d&c has caused an issue and it will hopefully resolve itself. i am going to try and see my PCP today and have her look down my throat and see what is going on down there. i was diagnosed in oct 09.
i think i need to find a good gyn here in boston as i dont have one. i feel a little alone out here now that i am on this treatment. thank you for your help and interest

i havent heard from anyone out there on this treatment. my throat continues to bother me and today i spoke with my oncologist and we agreed that i should stop this treatment for 24 hours and see if my throat begins to feel better.... and then start up again with the megace, maybe on weaker doses per day. would like to hear from one of your experts on this issue also. thanks

Thank you for the additional information. I will ask one of our medical experts to reply to your question, and hopefully you will hear back soon.

If you can provide any additional information about troublesome symptoms you are having, how long ago you were diagnosed, and any additional relevant information (ie, is your doctor supporting your decision?), this may help.

alison, hello. i never heard back form anyone concerning the megace treatments for stage 1 uterine cancer. i was on the generic megace and had some reaction to the drug after two days. i continued with the drug for another 7-8 days but my throat situation did not get better or worse really, until one nite after my last dose for the day my mouth began to feel hot and tingly. my tongue did not swell nor did my lips but i felt like i had eated a hot pepper. i stopped this megace treatment as i was worried about this feeling in my throat and my mouth. so i am off treatment now for 4 days and my throat and mouth are much better... back to normal. i was very hopeful about this treatment as i really was hopeful it would kill the cancer cells and alone me not to have a total hysterectomy. I feel like the only other option to try is the Megace Oral suspension... the inactive ingredients in the medice are different than the generic brand. If anyone has any information on this drug it would very much apprciated by me to hear from them. thanks for all your interest and help with this issue

thanks for your help. i was diagnosed with high grade complex hyperplasia with atypia. (EIN)
i was scheduled for a total hysterectomy but then came across a women at hersfoundation.org that told me i had not been treated properly yet... i needed to have a d&c and then go one megace for about 3 months and then be re-evaluated (d&c) to see how iam responding to the treatment.
I am happy with my choice so far but am concerned with some strange feelings since starting the treatment. Rationally i tell myself that it will take my body some time to get used to this new medicine and some discomfort is probably understandable...ie, i have had some prickly skin feelings (nothing terrible but there) and today my throat feels a little strange, but not sore. i have not noticed an increase in my appitite. I am looking for communtication with others about this treatment and a resouce inwhich i can trust.
sincerely

I am so glad you found EmpowHER, and hopefully will hear from other women who have specifically used this treatment for uterine cancer/precancer.

Can you tell us what type of uterine cancer/precancer you have been diagnosed with, and do you know what stage or grade it is? Do you have any additional information that you can provide us regarding your diagnosis, so that other women can respond to your question with greater detail?
