Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

For the benefit of our readers, an epidermal cyst is a firm, slow-growing lump underneath the skin. This cyst contains soft, cheesy-like skin secretions. These usually appear on the scalp, face, neck, chest, upper back, genitals, or behind the ears.

The only way to know what happens is to leave it untreated and see if there is discomfort or swelling beyond a lump. Symptoms could include foul-smelling, cheesy-like material draining from the cyst or
redness or tenderness on or around the cyst if it becomes inflamed. We cannot say if there could be serious consequences; a doctor will be able to tell you more.
Best,
Susan
