Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
Periods can be late or delayed for many reasons decides pregnancy that are most related to any serious condition. Signs of a serious problem include prolonged, frequent or heavy bleeding, not generally lighter bleeding.
With that said some causes can include:
--stress
--poor nutrition and sleep
--medications
--extreme weight loss or weights gain
Most doctors recommend taking birth control pills to regular your period if you have hormonal imbalances. But this is usually not necessary unless you are having heavy or frequent bleeding.
The link below describes more causes in detail. I suggest you check it out.

I hope that helps.
