Q:

Is it dangerous to have intercourse with a tampon in?

My boyfriend and I got carried away and actually had intercourse while I still had a tampon in. There was no pain and he couldn't feel it. We figure it's less messy and we don't notice a big difference. Is it bad for me? Are there any risks?

Yeah I didn't have any problems taking it out, but since there is a risk we won't be doing that again. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Anonymous,

Were you able to remove the tampon safely after?

The problem with this is that you could cause some serious harm to your body and lodge the tampon so far inside making it impossible for you to remove it on your own. If you can't remove your tampon then you put yourself at risk for Toxic Shock Syndrome, which can be fatal. https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/toxic-shock-syndrome-tss

I realize it is less messy but you may want to avoid sex during your heavier cycle days if you are concerned about the mess and just use a condom on the other days.

Good Luck,

Rosa
