What can I do to get rid of the fat after being a former alcohol abuser? I work out constantly and maintain a healthy diet but see no results.

Hi Erika N.,

Welcome to EmpowHer! As we get older, losing weight becomes more and more difficult. It's great that you're eating a healthy diet as well as exercising, because that's the only right way to get and keep the weight off!

How long have you been trying to lose weight? It's important to remember how long it took to put on those pounds. So often we expect wondrous results from a little hard work and with weight loss, this is hardly ever the case (I can attest to that).

Difficulty losing weight could be the result of a thyroid dysfunction.

Visit out page for more info: https://www.empowher.com/thyroid-conditions

The liver is an important part of health and weight, and being a former alcohol abuser could have diminished your liver function.

Have you heard of the Sandra Cabot Liver Cleanse? I recently did this and saw excellent results. I didn't find many resources or information about the diet online, so I just bought the book. I really feel that it kind of reset my appetite, my cravings, and my health.

Here's a link with that info: http://www.liverdoctor.com/

It also helps to have a support group: https://www.empowher.com/groups/lose-eight-pounds-empowerher-way/posts/empowhers-weight-lose-challenge-group

With weight loss, don't forget to set long and short term goals. And remember that it won't happen over night--baby steps!

Sorry to overwhelm you with resources, hope this helps!

Best of luck & keep in touch,

Danielle.
