Q:

Joint replacement implant has come apart!

I had Bunion surgery three months ago. The surgeon inserted an Titanium implant into my big toe to straighten it. Now after three months my foot swelled up and I suffered much pain in the big toe. X-rays showed the implant had come apart. Doctor says I need another surgery to take defective one out and insert another one into the big toe! IS it safe for me to wait another month to have the surgery with the broken implant inside my big toe?

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER. If your toe is swelling and you are in pain, it might be good to have the surgery soon. Depending on your imaging results, you will need to discuss with your doctor how long can you wait to have your surgery. Hope this was helpful?

Best,

Daisy
