Q:

Menstrual period or a possibility I'm pregnant?

For the past 2 months, me and my husband have been trying to conceive. Last month my period came as usual the last week of the month. It never changes and is like clock work, down to the day & time it starts till the day it ends.
Just Friday, 9/19/14, I had 2 small very bright red dots when I wiped. There was nothing else the whole day. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. I had no cramps that day.
The next morning I was bleeding pretty heavy and had cramps but it ended that afternoon. It's Monday, and I haven't had any bleeding or cramping since that Saturday afternoon. (Nothing Sunday & today). Buy my period isn't due yet, I still have a week till my period is due. I can't remember the last time my period ever came early. It has been short before like lasting for 3 days but never a week early.

I have been extremely tired these past few weeks, sensitive to touch in my lower abdomen and my tatas have been swore. I feel neausiated at random parts of the day, back pain a lot and smells have definitely increased.

The bleeding after the 2 red dots is what makes me wonder, Is there a possibility I'm pregnant or is this my period?

Hi Anon,

The irregular bleeding is very confusing. Implantation bleeding is usually not that heavy. Have you had any brown spotting? Brown spotting is correlated with implantation bleeding. I'm stumped that the heavy bleeding only lasted from 5am to afternoon and that your period would be a week early.  But if it was indeed heavy, it could be your period (but I am so hoping for you that it's not).

What day are you expecting your period? Did you try another test today or maybe one tomorrow?

Please don't get discouraged.

Best,

Kristin

Thank you for commenting. I appreciate it a lot. I read your article, along with a lot of other articles on implantation bleeding. A lot of them say heavy bleeding is not associated with implantation bleeding. That's what stoops me, because 1st day I had 2 small bright dots and nothing else, no cramps, just blotted feeling. The 2nd day at 5:00am till that afternoon I was bleeding pretty heavy (almost like a period) and I had cramping. Then nothing that night, nothing the next day, and nothing today. My concern is with the bleeding on day 2 that was so heavy and cramps, is that normal with implantation bleeding?

Any help or comments on this, I greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hi Anon!

Thank you so much for visiting the EmpowHER community, especially since you are trying to get pregnant! Your experience is very similar to many of our members who are also trying to conceive!

Well, you certainly have the symptoms of early pregnancy!! When I conceived my second child, I knew very early on because I was flat out exhausted and couldn't even function past noon without a nap!!

The red dots of blood could be a sign of implantation bleeding. Are you familiar with that? I will attach a link about implantation bleeding for you to look at.

A home pregnancy test might be too early to tell at this point. I also had a false negative because I tested too early with my daughter. I remember being sooo bummed :-( Try taking another one about 3 days before your period is due and do it first thing in the morning. Some tests are better than others, so don't be too disappointed if one comes back negative. Try again the day your period is due.

Again, anon take a read about implantation bleeding-that could be what you were experiencing. https://www.empowher.com/pregnancy/content/pregnancy-words-implantation-bleeding-what-it-and-it-normal

If you are indeed pregnant, schedule a visit with your OB right away and get a top quality prenatal vitamin. It will help with the tiredness and keep the baby super healthy!

Anon, will you keep me update?

Best,

Kristin
