My 13 year old has long periods that can go up to 6-7 days. She also has pain the first couple days. Is this normal ? How can I help her cope?

Hi Lkam,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. Your daughter’s menstrual cycle is not uncommon. If she is having severe cramping, she can take Midol to help reduce the inflammation due to her menstrual cycle that will cause cramping. You can also take her to see a Gynecologist as perhaps birth control may be helpful to control the flow of her menstrual cycle. Irregular periods are not uncommon well into your 20s. Hopefully his information helps. If you have additional questions, please feel free to ask.

Good luck,

Missie
