Microgynon and diarrhoea

I take my pill at 6pm every evening on Thursday I took my pill as normal and then on Friday morning at approx 10am I had one episode of diarrhoea I then continued to take my pill as normal Friday Saturday and Sunday at 6pm then on Monday morning I had another one isolated episode of diarrhoea at about 11am. That evening I took my pill as normal and then later I had sex with my partner without thinking that I might not be protected.....now I'm worried I wasn't protected is that possible? Thanks

Hi Anon,

Although Diarrhea is not listed as one of the side effects of Microgynon, I did find this concerning diarrhea:

"If you have very severe diarrhoea for more than 24 hours, this may make your pill less effective. You should keep taking your pill at your normal time, but treat each day that you have severe diarrhoea as if you had forgotten to take a pill and follow the instructions under "what do I do if I miss a pill" above."

For what it's worth, the instructions above are for someone who has had diarrhea for 24 hours, not for single incidents of diarrhea so even though you experienced diarrhea on two separate occasions, you should still be protected. Just use the above information for future reference.
