Q:

My boyfriend is "afraid" of my vagina.

We're a fairly active couple, but all of our encounters consist of me removing my shirt and him removing his pants. As soon as he gets off, it's over. We've tried a couple times to have sex (we're both virgins), but as soon as my pants come off he loses it. He's told me that vaginas freak him out, and both the smell and sight "make him want to vomit". I tried masturbating in front of him once, and he was completely disgusted. As far as I know, I'm perfectly normal and healthy down there. I don't know what to do. He acknowledges that our situation is unfair to me, and he seems remorseful, but he's disgusted at even the slightest mention of a vagina. We wonder if there's anyone else who's experienced this sort of thing, and if anyone has any advice for how he can get over it.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. I hate to tell you this but there is actually a phobia associated with fear of womens genatalia called Eurotophobia. You can read more about it here http://www.allaboutcounseling.com/library/erotophobia/.

Much like having a fear of flying or fear or spiders, the person who has the phobia needs to seek help for the condition. I hope this helps as there is not a real easy answer to phobias.

Good luck,

Missie
