Hello Anon
Thank you for writing.
I'm sorry you're in this pain but it's good to know no growths/tumors have been found and the cause is a muscle strain.
The intercoastal muscles bind the ribs together. Somehow, they were torn or strained. This could have happened during house or garden work, exercising or even coughing, sneezing or stretching.
Your doctor should have given you advice on treatment. Generally, alternate hot and cold packs, and breathing exercises.
According to Healthline:
Hold a pillow against your injured muscles.
Breathe in slowly and as deeply as you can.
Hold the breath for a few seconds.
Breathe out slowly.
Repeat 10 times.
Depending on the extent of the strain, your recovery could take weeks to a month or two. If you are in pain, rest, as opposed to walking too much. We hope you feel better soon.
